Mission
Green Mountain Autism Foundation, Inc. (GMAF) was created to promote autism awareness and raise money to fund local programs within Vermont and the surrounding states. At the time of its creation Vermont had no local representation or organized non-profit entities dedicated solely to the support of autism related functions and concerns. GMAF will spearhead local activities for the benefit of autism research, support of families and those with autism and provide education and literature that will benefit local communities.
Operations
GMAF will operate year-round conducting seminars, fund-raising events, workshops and other training in support of autism in general and those afflicted with autism. The entity will work with other regional and national autism related non-profit entities to further the overall mission of treating and curing autism. All funds generated will go back to the community to help families and those afflicted with autism lead more normal lives and provide relief to those paying out of pocket for autism related costs. Memberships may be contemplated in the future as a way to general funds but will not be considered at this time.
Community Support/Benefits
GMAF will support individuals through programs such as promotion of National Autism Awareness Month, Safe and Sound and other autism camps, Autism Puzzle, Autism Speaks, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, specialized adaptive sports instruction and respite care and social events. The Foundation will assist families caring for children with autism by providing funds and goods (toys, educational products, augmentative & alternative communication devices and equipment), which will ease the burden on those families. Funds raised by the Foundation will also be donated to regional and national non-profit entities which are doing research and working to develop a cure for this affliction. The primary focus of this entity to is to raise awareness and support for those stricken with autism and those who are caring for them. Funds to families in support of autism related concerns. Purchase of toys and equipment to loan or donate to families in need.
